Routine

In every city, in every town
A kid dreams, a kid cries
Near dusk, or just before dawn
Someone lives, someone dies

 Lives intersect daily
As droves Ride the bus,
Go to work,
Buy groceries,
Pay bills,
Shop.

Some seem interesting enough
To elicit a smile from a stranger
While others are detestable, deplorable,
 Unoworthy of attention.

The lines at the sides of your eyes
Appear as you try to decipher
The sights you see
Over and over
Every hour Every day.

The heart grows stubborn.
Nothing will change.
You travel to a different place
and sigh because

In every city, in every town
A kid dreams, a kid cries
Near dusk, or just before dawn
Someone lives, someone dies
And you could care less.
